I chose this 1x6, 3/4" thick, beaded yellow pine to use for my ceiling, loft floor, and living room floor. It's SUPER lightweight which is important, easy to install, and not too expensive. This material is typically used for ceilings because it is a pine which is soft. However, we feel fine using it for parts of the floor because these 2 areas are mostly covered.

In the living room, an area rug and the couch cover the majority of this floor. The boards also made it easy to work the storage cavities into the floor. 

In the loft, because the boards are thin I am not losing head room in the loft and below the loft. Also, the loft floor will be mostly covered with a queen mattress so again it shouldn't be a problem.
